AvPGalaxy Reviews Predator: Hunters!

Predator: Hunters is a five issue series that began on May the 3rd and finished on September the 6th of 2017. Written by veteran Alien and Predator writer Chris Warner (he actually wrote the very first Predator comic!) and illustrated by Francisco Ruiz Velasco, Predator: Hunters is the first Predator series for some time that hasn’t been tied into a major crossover event or the release of a new movie.

So let’s take a look at where the original Predator comic writer has taken the new series! The basic premise of Predator: Hunters follows a specialist team that has all survived previous encounters with the Predator and now they’re on the offensive, investigating and putting a stop to Predator activity on Earth. The story shares some similarities with Predator: Xenogenesis (released in 1999) but unlike Xenogenesis, Hunters finds itself set within modern times and is grounded much more in previous Predator continuity.

Something I really loved with Predator: Hunters was that a good chunk of its protagonists had ties to previous Predator lore. While Xenogenesis’ characters had previous encounters with the Predators, they were original for the series. Predator: Hunters’ team leader, Jaya Soames is the great great granddaughter of Captain Soames from Predator: Nemesis. The other returning characters are Mandy Graves from Predator: Bad Blood and Enoch Nakai from Predator: Big Game.

Great podcast lads. Loved this comic, probably one of the best I've ever read. They absolutely nailed the predators in this. Brutal, cunning and most importantly mysterious. I could be mistaken but I don't think the word Yautja was used once in this tale, no talk of blooded or unblooded or stupid predator names like "rusty blades" or "broken teeth". Like nails on a chalk board to me.
In this story they are stripped back down to basics and their actions tell you all the back story you need to know.
The part where a predator lets a character go and points in a direction with a bloodied weapon and mimics the words "go to hell" just tells you everything about that particular aliens code of honour in combat. The creators of this story really got it. And the designs of the predators in the flashback scenes were so good.
My only complaint would be that "Big Game" came out almost 30 years ago and Enoch was in his early twenties at a guess in that comic. The guy should be pushing 50 at least by now but he barely looks like he's in his 30's.

I'd love (and still hope for) a new game but I'm not sure that'd be the kind of thing Stradley would be getting involved with.

Unless one of his writers were penning the story.

Grant Morrison wrote Concrete Jungle (and would've had an Aliens comic to his name if it hadn't been pulled).

    The game ?

Do you know, he is my fav comic book writer and I did not know that lol.
