AvPGalaxy Exclusive: Guy Pearce Returns for Alien: Covenant!

Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender aren’t Alien: Covenant’s only returning actors from Prometheus. Alien vs. Predator Galaxy can exclusively reveal that Guy Pearce will be returning to appear in Alien: Covenant! Beware following story spoilers!

We have learnt that Guy Pearce will be reprising his role as a slightly younger Peter Weyland during the film’s opening scenes. The current edit of Alien: Covenant begins with David 8 being brought online in a large white room with a grand view overlooking an ocean.

A younger, but still somewhat aged, Weyland asks David various questions to test him. We eventually move to David performing Richard Wagner’s Entrance of the Gods into Valhalla, explaining the meaning of the piece as he plays.

Alien vs. Predator Galaxy can exclusively reveal that Guy Pearce will be returning to portray Peter Weyland once again in Alien: Covenant! AvPGalaxy Exclusive: Guy Pearce Returns for Alien: Covenant!

Alien vs. Predator Galaxy can exclusively reveal that Guy Pearce will be returning to portray Peter Weyland once again in Alien: Covenant!

David explains that it is about God’s abandoning their creations due their displeasure with their creation’s greed and vanity, only to realise that the Gods themselves sharing the same flaws. This leads to David and Peter discussing Gods and creations and human mortality which strikes a chord with Weyland (a tip of the hat to his motivation in Prometheus).

Guy Pearce previously spoke about returning to play Weyland again back in 2014, saying how much he would like to return to Weyland and to work with Ridley again: I’d love to go back and play that character again. To work for Ridley again, you know, he’s great — really wonderful to work for. So yeah, I’m very curious to see what he will do next with it.”

I think Guy Pearce and Weyland has more presence. Granted, it was only really in the TED viral that he stood out but everyone talks about that viral and knows it, so I think there's still some appetite to have him back. I can't say I'd really be interested in Vickers coming back.

QuoteLRM: I think the last time we spoke was for "Prometheus" and I thought this new movie was going to be sequel, but I also didn't think you or your character Peter Weyland would be in it What can you say about that? Are you just doing more promos as Peter Weyland for the movie?

Guy Pearce: I can't give it away. (laughs)

LRM: So far, nothing I've seen from the movie makes it seem like a sequel to "Prometheus" but you're one of the few returning actors...

Guy Pearce: Yeah, well, I'm not sure how to answer that without giving too much away. (laughs) Just that I'm involved somehow.

I was thinking about that too. Id rather not have her if she is just another cash-syphoning expensive cameo. Theron can act when she puts her mind to it. Either it was the script (most likely) or her performance, but she was a waste of space in Prometheus. That role could have been sooo much more and could have easily eclipsed David's. Id rather not have her back unless she has a meaningful role and puts her acting chops behind it. Not that I have a choice anyway...

(Im not against Theron, but her role needs to add deep rooted non-superficial value, not just be thrown in there as a tacky cameo)

Here it is Hicks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHUhjTo16i8 first 20 mins, but still I LOVE this start. Add in more dialogue like Janek and Vickers cut scene and its far more like the movie I wanted.

Thanks for sharing, bug (get registered already!) Love the extended version of the TED talk but not keen on it and the Quiet Eye being put into the film. Just doesn't work for me.

TheBATMAN: "added shot of old Weyland watching Shaw's transmission from his office on Mars." Please post a link, I'd love to see that!

It's such a shame the TED talk was never shot for the movie. There's a fan edit out there similar to this but with an added shot of old Weyland watching Shaw's transmission from his office on Mars. It was really well done.
  6. itshouldneverhavebeenabug
Hi HuDaFuK, yes and it's extended by a few mins in this cut with stuff I had never seen from the TED talk. Didn't realise there was a longer version of the TED talk.

Love this news. There's a rehash of Prometheus first 30 mins on youtube that fits this in, and that I thought was so much better and made so much more sense. I must say after seeing this rehash, I was able to finally start to like it. Shame that they haven't done it for the whole film. More younger Guy Pearce please, I loved this strong Weyland in prime of life.

    Do you have a link?

When I read the title I was worried it was a bit of Prometheus material / online material edited out of Prometheus that has been slapped onto the beginning of Covenant.

    Who knows?

I think Fassbenders acting did all the explaining we need why David is like he is, so I'd rather see the screen time used for something else.

Was it 10 mins or so that was squandered on the elders/engineers sequence in Prometheus? I would have liked more of a Shaw going for funding backstory and assembling the crew. The underwater sequence with splitting cells etc... that looked too computer generated, took us away from the movie and I think that whole "message" could have been conveyed quicker

Its good that they keep with tradition in covenant and we have the Weyland link - lets face it - the whole franchise is intertwined with Weyland corp. I just don't think David needs any more explaining at this point than Ash did.

Perfect Organism: "I wonder if we will see a resurrected young Peter Weyland at some point in the future. Perhaps that is David's mission?"

The only way David could resurrect Peter is either through using his blood or time travel. However I feel that it is best to just have Peter come back as dreams or flashbacks. Maybe an android Peter would be interesting.

I'm not saying it would be a good idea, but one of the themes of Prometheus was the idea of eternal life.  That is what Weyland was looking for.  You don't need time travel or blood samples to do something interesting with that.  Maybe the Engineers have some other goo that brings dead things back to life?  It would verge on cheesy, but if done well, I could imagine a young Weyland rising up from where the old Weyland died, but then eventually changing into something hideous..
  11. BringbackJonesy!
Out of all the recent news concerning ALIEN:COVENANT (be it a glimpse of young, deformed  'neomorphs', or a bust of an 'adult' deformed head, or the new 'eggs', or the new 'facehugger)...one of the things that I'm most pleased about is the fact that Guy Pearce looks likely to actually appear in the movie without the 'old Weyland' makeup this time around!  ;D

For a long time, there was no guarantee that Noomi's character would make any sort of appearance in this follow-up, and the fact that Pearce is back too (however briefly), is great news to me - whether either of them are seen in a 'flashback', or 'holographic recording', or 'memory implant'...or any other scenario even.  And the description of 'young' Weyland's possible involvement with 'switching' on 'David 8' at the start of the movie sounds excellent.

While it remains quite a re-watchable movie for me due to certain things,I'll always despair about certain badly-judged moments that litter PROMETHEUS - one of them being the lack of any 'young Weyland' footage being incorporated into the movie to offset the 'old makeup' that Guy Pearce ended up wearing throughout!

I'm so pleased that audiences will finally get a glimpse of Guy's 'younger' self onscreen this time around, considering how good he was in the excellent 'viral clip' that Ridley's son (Luke Scott) filmed.

I've always wished that even some of that footage had been incorporated into the movie in some way (even as a 'flashback' or showing on one of the ship's screens, for instance), as it would have really added some extra gravitas about his character to the proceedings.

Although I have a differently-edited version of my own in mind sometime, I only re-watch agent9's 'Special Edition' version these days...due to it including a lot of the deleted scenes I like - especially the 'young Weyland' TEDTalk sequence to kick things off.

I'm so glad that ALIEN:COVENANT will finally feature Guy as he actually looks...but I'll always stick with a version of the original movie which opens with his monologue included, to juxtapose with his 'older' appearance later on - in fact, while I lay a lot of the blame about certain aspects of PROMETHEUS on Damon Lindelof, it seems that he was instrumental in devising that whole sequence...so thanks for that.  And well done Luke Scott.  I only wish that the makers had included some of it in the actual movie to begin with.

Here's a good link about what Lindelof had to say about that whole scene - blog.ted.com/writing-a-tedtalk-from-the-future-q-a-with-damon-lindelof/

oops, that TEDTalk link was wrong, it should have been this - blog.ted.com/writing-a-tedtalk-from-thefuture-q-a-with-damon-lindelof/

Hmmm, turns out I'd typed that TEDTalk article link correctly the first time - not sure why it won't link directly, so just re-type my first attempt yourselves, if interested.

Maybe it will only be viral material and later bonus on Blu Ray.

Yeah.  This is my thoughts as well.  Like the 2023 Ted Talk we got for 'PROMETHEUS' where the younger Weyland presented some of the themes that were present in the movie but not really integral to the story or plot.  I'd say we'll see this younger Weyland once again, discussing the virtues of his new android technology in viral marketing format, essentially, a sequence thematically related to the content of the movie but existing completely outside the scope and framework of the movie itself.

It could be really cool if this film opened with a scene similar to the opening of PROMETHEUS with the Engineers seeding life with the goo, only this time its Weyland and the goo is white and brings David 8 to life. They could even use the same close ups of the goo infusing within the veins of David instead of the Engineer and then the TITLE appears.
As for Weyland and David - maybe WEYLAN survived?! Maybe Shaw put david's head on Weyland's body? Maybe David is trying to put his head on Weyland's body?

Well David's been programmed to give WEYLAND immortality, no?

OMG you guys Weyland is the one in the Pilot Suit in ALIEN, it's sooo obvious now.  ;)

I m watching Westworld... there are some nice ideas I like.
I like stories about robots and philosophical exploration of their nature,
but more so the nature of their creators.  ;D
  15. Enoch
Weyland is the main representative of human fallen nature.
I myself would use him in flashback... maybe like in Bergmans films
Weyland and David playing chess (death allegory) in some great room filled with art and symbols of human achievents throughout history;  they would speak about god, creation, life, existance, universe, their aspirations  but through that dialog they would show their inner characters to the audience. Thats the only meaningful reason to show us Wayland again,
because he will show us that bad side of humanity, but also the nature well hidden
    in Davids memory ;D
  16. BishopShouldGo
Such a shame the Weyland character was wasted in Prometheus. If you ask me, a Weyland should've been the lead or at least have a substantial role.

Hopefully in this new trilogy Weyland will be popping up in all three. And the films will have Weyland viral marketing.

Ha!  I called it years ago that we would once again see a young Peter Weyland.  I wonder if we will see a resurrected young Peter Weyland at some point in the future.  Perhaps that is David's mission?

Ash..."You still don't understand what you're dealing with, do you?...'Perfect Organism'...Its structural obfuscation is matched only by its banality.  I admire its simplicity. A survivor... unclouded by logic, common-sense, or delusions of reality. "

It will be fun to see Guy Pierce again! I had written a Paradise and I featured 4 David dream sequences where Peter Weyland was in them. Whether this intro is a dream sequence or something more like a TED talk is to be determined.

Not imminent due to the leaks, but the latest bit of info described a scene from a current edit of the film. So if the film has a work print edited together, plus a few months of post already behind it, then surely a simple teaser must be imminent.
