    Any painting tips?  ;D

aliens - black undercoat , bronze and silver dry brush, black or purple wash(depending on preference) ardcoat dome for that nice glossy finish.

marines- i used a light flesh tone for the camo then sepia washed over the top, olive drab type colour for armour , used darker flesh tone for skin. (my marines were the first i painted and were not very good.

predator i been experimenting with the skin tones , doing a lot of layers to try get the reptile like skin tones.

WY commands were a nightmare to do in white, i undercoated black, drybrushed white, painted armour white, black washed, then painted the highlights back in ( took ages but looks good) i used various different greys for the straps etc and gun metal for the face shield.

power loader was the worst to do ( i found so anyway) undercoat black, painted yellow, black washed ten painted yellow highlights back in , painted metal for hydraulic pipes, dry brushed metal skuff marks, marine as per others. i would advise tho, if you can, paint power loader in parts as its very difficult to get into arms well once built.

Practice on a piece of junk.

Go and buy a $2.50 bag of of those shitty little plastic soldiers and practice your skills on those.  No one cares if you mess them up.

    -Windebieste.

Here, these little arseholes will make perfect guinea pigs for your budding painting talents and torture.

    https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi.ebayimg.com%2Fimages%2Fg%2F8-IAAOSwxehXOnzV%2Fs-l500.jpg&hash=6c86ecaa86791f029c9e8619506f23b100070c07

Looks like there's green and silver available.  Always go for the lighter colour - silver in this case.  It will more easily match the white figures you already have.

Normally, it's advisable to wash the figures first with some soapy water to get rid any grease and detritus that may be adhering to them.  Them rinse 'em again.  Then you can start with a light base colour and add darker details on top.  Using shitty little test subjects like these means you can experiment on them as much as you like - and f**king them over is half the fun!  Draw dicks and swastikas on them, too, if you like.  No one will care how you treat 'em.

The last thing you want to do is start working on your good figures and mess them up if you are not ready to do so regardless of any techniques people give you.  Like a lot of things in life, you will want to practice and learn.  Shitty toys can be fun to paint, too!  Mess around with colour schemes you would normally be averse to using and practice, practice, practice until you know the result you get is the desirable one.

Then - and only then - will you be ready to seriously apply coatings to those Aliens and stuff you got there.

    -Windebieste.

the aliens are a doddle to paint, i hated doing my powerloader, took me soooooo long to do and get it to stage i am happy with. i enjoyed painting the predators the most tho. good luck tho

Sorry, not the greatest pictures in the world. I started putting my stuff together today. Just the Stalkers and one Predator left to do. Planning on ordering some Sulaco bases to put them on and then take a wack at painting.

I still have yet to play the game, let alone paint all the models. I have some of the Aliens completed. It's a long term project that my cousin is helping me do. I'll post some pics of the completed ones soon.

How sturdy are the miniatures? I was going to look into the possibility of getting some but I also recently got the Diamond Select Aliens vs Colonial Marines army bag and those things are surprisingly well-sculpted and are made out of quality hard rubber/plastic. Just need some paint.

like hicks said , dont throw them about and you will be fine, the tails are pretty fragile and the powerloader too (had to reglue the arm back on 3 times) but if treat them with care then you will be fine, the detail is outstanding so its a trade off IMO of detail Vs robustness.

We were playing the boardgame version with the missions in the rulebooks. So only several panels of hived terrain. I've only played a few games so I'm not to full grips with it yet.

we played the skirmish modes and also just made death match games ourselves, tend to miss the out the missions as i play it with 4-6 players, but i have enough models painted differently to make it that there is 2 distinct squads/clans/breed for each faction, the missions we have played have varied greatly tho , trying different tactics and the luck of the rolls

They're not something you want to be throwing around. Usual 8mm kind of models.

i played as all faction, won with all and lost with all in various games. the aliens work best if you use the surroundings to your advantage, skulk in , use the superior numbers, you will loose alot getting mowed down at times by marines of predators, i use the stalkers to rush enemies using the hive bloodhound skill, once the aliens engage with enemies then they have the upper hand as their CC skill is pretty good. also try drawing the prey in using hide and or skulking advance in infested terrain. thats how i won anyway

Played another couple of games this weekend. We had to relearn the rules again though so we ended up getting some rules completely wrong. I played Aliens this time and just got completely destroyed. They seem so underpowered. Need to check out the official forums and see if there's been any erratas.

Last I remember they're shipping from Poland. When mine was shipped I got an email with the details so I could track it.

So I finally played a game last night. We used the tokens as the figures weren't put together and it took us an hour to setup and read through the rules. I actually really enjoyed it. As it was our first game we were talking through everyones moves quite a lot and it was really interesting. It prompted me to actually go through and sort all the pieces out properly. I'm really keen to get the figures together and play some more.
I did not receive one yet so I am again nervous.

Glad to hear you enjoyed it. How difficult are the models to put together, in your opinion? Did you need anything special like glue or a small knife or anything like that? I would love to read an in-depth review from you.
  16. hardcorps54
when ever i played it (and its been a few games now) it varies greatly who wins, i thought initially the aliens were very underpowered but if you play them right you can win, they rely on numbers and picking your time to attack , swarming has the best effect when i played as them , the marines are solid in a group but easier when numbers reduced/seperated , predators depends on which one you attacking.

a very good game tho once you get your head around the wording of the rules, not played with much of the add ons as was more concerned with just getting the base game rules sorted in my head.
  17. Corporal Hicks
I played Predators. The Aliens actually won our games. But we all played a bit wrong or misremembered rules. Me and the Marine player were being too slow which set us back. And when I positioned myself to get off a few shots at the Aliens with my Plasma Caster I rolled a 20 on the second roll.

Who did you play as Hicks?

I'm curious to know others opinions of the base starters for the Aliens. The Infants and Stalkers are vastly underpowered in my opnion. I played several games, different missions and such with just the base game, nothing added, and I was blown off the table in almost all of those. It wasn't until I was able to get the Warriors, Crusher and Praetorian that I stood a better chance and actually won a few games.

Hey guys. Just an update on my situation. Prodos games finally contacted me back saying they've shipped my stuff. Since it is from the UK (I suspect), is there international tracking information available? Thanks.

I think it's alright. As a fan who's been craving miniatures to satisfy my miniature hobby, especially in the Alien arena, I'll take what we get. This way it'll save me the time and effort of getting a 40k Valkyrie and cutting it up to be a semi-looking Dropship.

I'm more curious now as to how the APC will look.
  22. Corporal Hicks
My LFGS has got the game in now. Now I'm going to have to learn to play.

So they're working on a Dropship and APC.

QuoteSome of you have already seen some 3d concept of the new Dropship and looking at it, it's going to be huge. Pricing wise we're not 100% sure until it's actually cast but what I can say is, it is planned, that this will be a 2 model box set. That's right, 2 models. 1 the Dropship and the 2nd being the APC.

And all of the recent report:

    QuoteHello backers,

Before we get inundated with questions in relation to pledges, I would ask that you read the previous update in relation to the issue we had in relation to door stands. Sure we should have made sure that we had the supplier locked in but things like this happen and we were caught out. This has led to a 5 week delay in shipping and is unfortunately outside of our control. Some have asked as to the reason that we didn't announce this earlier. The reason is that we didn't want to panic anyone and had hoped that the new supplier could be sourced much faster such that there would essentially have been no need to inform anyone of the problem. I am now acknowledging that all packages have not yet been issued because of this delay and I know some of you out there are still awaiting wave 2.

At this time we are currently looking at packing 50 of pledges to be posted this week with the remainder to issue shortly. This has been solely down to the issue with the stands and no other reason. We have funds to ship, we are working on new stuff and we are awaiting on Fox to clear some beautiful new sculpts.

Some of you have already seen some 3d concept of the new Dropship and looking at it, it's going to be huge. Pricing wise we're not 100% sure until it's actually cast but what I can say is, it is planned, that this will be a 2 model box set. That's right, 2 models. 1 the Dropship and the 2nd being the APC. We are really excited about making these iconic vehicles.
Back to talking about the stands. We have received Monday stands. Yesterday the 1st wave of games came to us (2 pallets as on attached pictures), and today, despite the huge shortage on staff due to sickness, 50 of them are going out. Reminding games should be with us within 2-3 weeks and it's game over. Please bear in mind, some of these stands will be different colours but this is unavoidable as we are trying to ship this out as fast as possible.(and to be honest, aliens keep ripping the doors open in all our games anyway so they never last long)

Approvals: we are green lighted on : Young Bloods, Sentry Guns, Female Predator, they will be available for collection at Salute. And part of wave 3 post Salute ( along with remaining clear predators, Sergeant, and other alternative pieces), hence wave 3 will start post Salute (beg of April), I understand that for some of you it may be 1st/2nd/3rd wave, and we had to deliberately postpone shipping of newly approved item due to manpower capacity constrains (packing) and constant over-promising.

Shipping pre-Salute: we will get as many parcels as possible in next 3 weeks, however there won't be no shipping 2 weeks before Salute, simply due to shortage on staff and preparing stock/pledges for collection, if any, for Salute.
SALUTE collection + alternative Warrior models : If for some reason your pledge is now with you by Salute 2015 and and you plan to visit this year Salute please let us know via email additionally please make sure that you have your pledge manager print out and some ID, you may also collect pledge for your friend (please make sure your friend email us with name of the person that will be collecting his/her pledge).

An alternative Warrior models! - We will have a limited stock of "show only model" at Salute, about 50 sets at max. - Warrior models from the Aliens movie (classic design) and with Gods help maybe a Dropship and/or APC.

REMINDER: Please , please , please check your pledge manager for correct address and/or missing name surname (we need both for shipping). We had in last 4 weeks (shipped in last 2 months) 47 pledges returned to us due to wrong address, I understand that it was a really long ride, and in some cases people have moved to new places, however we wont be able to re-ship your KS at this stage and it will be put on a pile to be delivered at the end of this madness (unless you are happy to cover re-shipping costs now). Accepting your return doubles the cost of shipping for us as well as we have to pay for road back.

    Thanks

No. I mean, I post in the facebook group everywhile, and get the same curt non-apologies that everyone else gets.

I was defending Prodos for a good long while, but even my patience turns sour eventually. Still hoping to get and enjoy the game, but what should have been a great and wonderful thing has been marred considerably by not just the wait, but also Prodos' mishandling of every aspect of the communication process.

Meh, still just waiting patiently here in NZ  ::)

I have 300+ miniatures on the way so I can wait.....because I don't think I'm going to be starting them anytime soon, anyway :/ hell. I still need to find a place I'm going to put all the little bastards while they are packed up, let alone once they are made.

Well, 1 week away from the 27-month anniversary of me giving Prodos my money, and still not so much as a shipping notice. I've gone through the four stages of a breakup multiple times at this point. In December, they swore all the packages would be out by the end of January, then last month they swore all the packages would be out by the end of February. I'm expecting a similar notice about the end of March in another week or so.

I'm not annoyed about being last to get my stuff - someone's got to be last, after all, and it may as well be me. But last should have meant getting my models a year and a half ago.

I'm very torn between not wanting the game to go away, because the models are excellent and I don't know that anyone else would do as good of a job with those, and between wanting Prodos to go away so that someone competent can take over the license.

QuoteGood news folks, we have been shipping AVP to backers all week and we're down to 505 parcels (+backlog of about 40 being processed by our packing team). There has been an issue with door stands supplying for AvP board game (supplier ran out of it and could not supply any more from China, thus we needed to find a manufacturer in Europe and pay for tooling, 4 weeks delay), as a result some of you may receive a board game with different than black door stands, we took whatever supplier had in stock.
I'm sorry to those who are still awaiting their wave 2 stuff but unfortunately, as we mentioned before, we thought the fairest way to send KS stuff out was randomly. I'll ask you to be patient for just a little while longer if you haven't received your stuff as we're still packing boxes.
In other news, we have had the sculptors working hard behind the scenes on one of the new models to be released soon, and I can now announce that we're working on one of the most iconic pieces from the Aliens movie...the Drop-ship + APC. It will be an add-on for the board game with few tiles, new missions and rules clarification available only at shows or via our webstore.
Some of you have started to receive the facehugger models over the last few weeks and we hope that you understand some of the changes we had to make.
We are also working on the 3rd and the last wave of approvals on remaining items, once we know more we will share it with you.
We are currently looking a rewrite of some of the rules and I know that some of the crusaders are over on the Prodos AVP forum looking at these. Please make double time over there so that you can tell us what does or doesn't work with the boardgame as we frequent those pages often to see how we can redesign the game to make it better for you.
    http://forum.prodosgames.com/viewtopic.php...
Until next week, this is Prodos out!
Reminder: please also check your data in pledge manger, your name and surname must be in the pledge manager in order to ship your rewards.
Also as you can see we still have 81 unactivated pledge managers and 36 needing to be completed.

Interesting indeed. I'm curious as to whether or not the Dropship and APC will be to scale with the other models like the vehicle models are to scale with the human/marine/creature models of Warhammer 40k for example. I'm hoping for that at least.

Also ready to see some table top wargame rules to come out, I know they're working on them. I've been building tons of terrain just for it!

Please make double time over there so that you can tell us what does or doesn't work with the boardgame as we frequent those pages often to see how we can redesign the game to make it better for you.

Until next week, this is Prodos out!
Reminder: please also check your data in pledge manger, your name and surname must be in the pledge manager in order to ship your rewards.
Also as you can see we still have 81 unactivated pledge managers and 36 needing to be completed.

    Latest update:

QuoteHi there. This is just a short update to let you know that we are still on course to finish wave 2 by the end of February. What is left to ship is shown in the attached pictures from board game manufacturer. The stack on left are the remaining AvP KS version board games that are getting assembled and shipped to us within next few weeks.

We are excited and happy to announce that all 2nd Wave parcels, shipped after the 8th Feb will include following items (pictures to shown prior to shipping):
    - Facehuggers
    - Young Bloods
    - Female Predator
    - Sentry Guns
    - Marines and Predator objective markers.

Outstanding items: An Additional Rules set, clear predator faction models and resin terrain, will be included in the final wave 3 shipping, which we hope to commence in late March (date to be confirmed).

Australian Backers: Small parcels are being shipped directly from Poland, larger orders are being prepared and shipped to our Australian partner, and this has resulted in significant postage savings such that I no longer need to sell my kidneys to ensure that everyone gets the products we have committed to sending you.

Again, I want to thank you for your patience but can I ask people again to please check your name and surname and your address in the pledge manager. We still have 278 backers where the data is not complete and this is delaying shipping for these backers as we will only be contacting them once all other shipments have been sent.

And I've kept the best piece of news until last. You asked for it and we are now working on 2 resin models, that will be available via our webstore or at various shows we plan to attend in 2016.

I can't tell you what they are yet but I hope to be able to update you next week. Our design team is hard working on this exciting project at the moment and I hope to be able to bring you sneak peaks of the production and design of these once all the kickstarter products have been issued.

These sneak peaks will be on our webpage once we have approval.

So make sure to check out the Prodos homepage closer to May 2016.
