AvP Miniatures Kickstarter Ends Today

The Alien vs. Predator Miniatures Game Kickstarter campaign is coming to a close – after 3 weeks of ups and downs, the campaign is finishing with some massive numbers – so much so that Prodos games has had to design some new last minute stretch goals, and they are truly outstanding!

As of this writing, the campaign is only a few thousand pounds away from the first official models we’ve (to my knowledge) ever had of the Weyland-Yutani “Dog Catcher” Commandos from the end of Alien 3, and the extra map tiles for the Predator Ship have already been unlocked, along with the massive, 100% in-scale Alien Queen, not to mention the Crusher from Aliens: Colonial Marines.

The campaign ends at midnight GMT, which is just a few hours away now – be sure and get your pledges added before you miss out!

Given the team's reaction in the Q&A stream to being questioned as to the inclusion of a Royal facehugger, their use of random google searches for their 'concept' images, and the AvP & AvP:R looking sculpts being refered to as Alien & Aliens versions, I have the growing suspicion that the Prodos lads are not the biggest fans.

Still can't be as bad as A:CM. They cant stop you from customising and homeruling a miniatures game.

The Warriors look like absolute crap  :'( ...I thought the Infant Warriors sucked and the Stalker's arms and legs looked a little iffy, but damn, this really blows. They basically gave us the bobbleheadmorph from AvP:R... Why??? What's wrong with Cameron's ridge-heads? I don't get these guys. Their Marine models are awesome and so are their Predator models (even though I don't agree with their portrayal of a female Predator). Why not the Alien models?

We knew they were going to do this from the start. From day-1 of the Kickstarter they said they were going to include EU stuff of all kinds.

And if you don't like it... don't buy it. :) The add-on minis are each sold separately. Buy what you like, skip what you don't.
Thankfully, everything needed to play is in the box... add ons aren't required! So if you hate something, you weren't forced into buying it! Genius!

Also, anyone excited about the latest update?
"In other news, we have some pretty amazing news. We have been very kindly allowed to create versions of the characters 'Major Dutch Schaefer' and 'Lieutenant Linn Kurosawa' from the Alien vs Predator arcade game. These characters will be a first for the AvP Miniatures Game, as there have been no named characters as of yet. These two characters will fit into our timeline and story, both serving in the USCM. "

    Why? Whyyy? *ugh!*

I wish they could've put that extra effort in use when making the Alien Infant Warriors (original Alien design please) or the Alien Stalkers (what's going on with the arms and legs on that one?). Just saying.

Exactly. The Predators are basically a nice "bonus" on this for me. I'm after a squad of marines with sentry guns and a full alien hive really. Stuff like Kurosawa or a Predalien aren't really of any interest to me at all.

That's why I love this Kickstarter. They gave us plenty of options to choose from. I take it you won't take the free model then?

Looks like folks who DIDN'T fund the Kickstarter can get hooked up with Pre-Order prices too.

I like the Predalien design they're using for the miniatures game, personally.

As I said earlier, I'm warming to that one now. The image of it painted is a good departure from the yellow/pale colour scheme from the film.
And the best part is, since you paint them yourselves you can paint them any color you want. :)
I'm hoping to paint mine more akin to the brown-ish-black style Warriors from Aliens, maybe with a bit of that Predator skin tone on certain areas. Haven't decided yet but these are just my initial thoughts.
  9. [CANCERBLACK]
I've been screwing around with some Tyranids to come up with my colour scheme. No luck so far but I'm getting closer, I'm attempting something that's off-black but blends sharply to sickly, drab greens and bile yellows around the details. If I was any good at lighting effects I'd be all over that NMM style the promo models are painted in though.

You're still (seemingly wilfully) missing my point and attacking one that I'm not making. My point is that taking something and arbitrarily sticking spikes on it is not good design. Especially when aliens are already pretty spikey. The "alien" elements of the design, such as the ribcage are spot on, but the exaggerated blades/spines, random spikes, completely inexplicable double tail blade and the use of literal dreadlocks make the design a bad one to my eyes. Get it yet?

It's the best Predalien design I have seen.  The least goofy looking one, anyway.

You said:  "It just looks like someone glued a bunch of extra spikes and some hair onto an alien."

Um, it is an alien, dude.  Or at least it's supposed to be.

Oh, I forgot about those dominant predator genes.

I'm still pissed they never used this design:

Honestly, I've never been a fan of that one. It just looks like someone glued a bunch of extra spikes and some hair onto an alien.

You're right, it shouldn't look like an alien, it should look like this:

Aside from that, how're ya doing Hicks? I  hope your distractions have been positive ones.

Nothing major. Just real world stuff - balancing 2 jobs, the mrs, the family and I'm really into Star Trek Attack Wing at the moment.

New update. Loving the Queen. Can't wait to see her painted! The Predalien really sucks though.

And yes, I just checked, it went out. Sa-weet.

So I've not been around too much past few weeks - but have we been charged for our pledge's yet? I've not checked ye old bank account yet. My first Kickstarter so not sure what's supposed to happen??

I was charged pretty much the second the kickstarter finished, cash was held for a few days before it transferred to Prodos. I'm definitely throwing in some more dollars when the pledge manager/survey gets sent out, at the moment I've got the box and a ton of Aliens, but I'd very much like more Aliens.

The technique I'm using for the bulk of the hive couldn't be easier, and only uses a single sculpting tool (one with a small, round, flat bit, like what dentists use to push fillings in).

    Spoiler (click to show/hide)

As for being intimidated by working with epoxy, don't be. The only way to learn how to use it is to play with it until you figure it out, IMO.

After years of only using it to fill gaps or sculpt capes, I got really into it a few years back just through goofing around. And an Alien hive is the perfect practise I'd reckon - it's amorphous and asymmetrical by it's very nature, will be painted dark colours and won't receive as much scrutiny as a model would. Plus, you're working at a larger scale when doing terrain.

I say go for it, get some putty and plasticard, grab some cool bitz and just f**k around until you're happy with it. :)
