Animatronic Jockey in Prometheus

SkyMovies has posted up more information from their insider at Fox regarding Prometheus:

“I’ve had further confirmation that the Space Jockey creature is definitely in Prometheus and has been built as an eight foot animatronic. I’ve also had it confirmed that HR Giger is working on the project but only in an advisory capacity. By the way, people are going to be in for a shock when they sit down to watch Prometheus and there’s an enormous semi-human head piloting a spaceship.”

The article also discusses the previously talked about CGI head pilot (engineer). Thanks to Darkoo for the link.

Man, I'm drooling in anticipation of the documentary footage we're gonna see of Giger and his team working on the Jockey... 'cause you know Charles de Lauzirika is gonna be on that like white on rice!  ;D

So the dude in the suit is going to walk on stilts, or what.

Depends on how it being shot

They could do what they did with AVP:R Chet

Pred-alien was only meant to be shot from the waist up. Which is why it looks out of preportion when viewing it in person

Could be the same. Could be for face close up or some sort of interaction with the cast.

Or they could go the full jurassic park approach.

Maybe that's from an early draft re-write by Lindelof that didn't include any Alien connections. Going by the latest strong rumours and Fassbender's coments, I'd say the connection to Alien is a lot stronger than what Dark Horizon's source says of that early draft.

Another source shot me a message today having read an early draft of the script saying that a "bioweapons planet" is the only link to the "Alien" films in it and it's a tenuous one at best. -

strange, i suppose it's important to note that the source said that they read an 'early' draft.

No doubt. Still doesn't explain why it's only 8 foot tall. I'd guess at least 10 from memory of the scene.

It might not be a puppet of the entire body. Could be something meant to be shot from the waist up or have the rest added in post.

Or the creature doesn't have a lower half. Maybe it's fixed to the chair, or whatever other furniture they might grow out of. A table or something.

    watch the video....

look at the polar bear suit at the beginning there is a guy in the suit and he is controlling the head that is it and also controlling the arms and legs this is a perfect example of how the space jockey may be used

    What is that ? lol
From the series Farscape. A pilot who is kinda connected to a biomechanical spaceship.
    And he's animatronic, too.
looks pritty interesting lol might have to watch an episode :)

In almost every interview about Alien,Ridley talk about the Jockey...he was always obsessed
with this creature and finally he will have the chance to show us the story of this being.
Regardless of being connected with Alien or not,Prometheus will be a great movie!

    Regarding the eight feet:

They've built the Derelict cockpit, too; and judging by Alien photos the Jock looks like it might be approximately eight feet tall from head to thigh (!) - which is where it 'plugs in' to its chair.

Either it has no legs as such or we'll see it 'performing its function'.

  12. Bad Replicant
It takes place in the same universe as Alien, but doesn't focus on the creature in the same way past movies did. If it was called, like, ALIEN 5: RETURN OF THE ALIENS or something and wasn't about aliens, then it wouldn't make sense.

Whats the fixation with labeling Prometheus?

Its set before Alien, thats all we know so prequel or not please just wait until we know more, whats the point in trying to decide when we know f**k all about it?

    Sorry,just my opinion of course
  19. RakaiThwei
    When did he say that?

I was just exaggerating a bit. Right now, I just don't feel like going into detail.. but if I must.

What he really said was that the original intended prequel, the project which was meant to be a prequel now evolved into something else and was considered no longer a prequel, but still retained some connections to the Alien universe.

That's what he said. More or less.

if its set in the alien universe, it don't make sence if the jockey lives when it was fossilized in the first film, unless its Another jockey and the race still exist, thats a totally differ story.

but if its a spinof, it can be either way. i mean, it can be a side story but still connected as canon to alien, but it can also be a totally seperate thing with justs hints of connection...which is it?
