Rebellion recently re-released their original Aliens vs Predator via Steam in middle of January. That release came without the multiplayer aspect of the game which has since had its first beta released:
* Integrated with Steam overlay
* Uses Steam name
* Host/join games via bare-bones in-game lobby browser
* Can invite and join friends and other players via the Steam overlay
* Currently no way to create private games (will patch)
* Game attempts host migration
* Dedicated servers are not supported or planned
* Supports windowed mode with –w command line switch
For those who have already downloaded the game, just launch Steam up and then AvP and your update should already been there. This is only a beta release and is still somewhat buggy at the moment but that should all be updated in time.
In Gamespot’s On The Spot segment, they speak to Tim Jones and have a five-minute walkthrough of the opening of the Alien campaign. It’s entirely new, I believe because the leaked clip the other week didn’t have this footage. The cut-scene shows you being born in a laboratory and you have to break out and free other aliens. If you watch the video on Gamespot, there’s a quick shot of the Queen at the beginning of the segment.
There’s a new AvP trailer that has just been released on GameTrailers called Survivor Mode. Basically a group of marines are overrun with countless aliens.
There’s no HD version unfortunately but maybe Sega will post it in due course. Thanks to alanwu1233 for the news.
There’s a few new multiplayer-related interviews and previews posted around the internet today. Firstly, there’s a video interview with Tim Jones on Gamespot. The footage shows the Smartgun in action too. There’s another video interview on XboxAchievements.org with Senior Producer Dave Brickley. Then there’s the one on GameTrailers with Tim Jones.
There’s four new written interviews with Dave Brickley at GamePlanet, Spong, Play.tm and Strategyinformer. There’s also a written multiplayer preview on XboxAchievements.org and another on OXM. And finally, there’s a short article about motion control support on CVG.
Thanks to ikarop for the links.
We’ve known for some time now that Sega would be releasing a demo for the upcoming game. In a recent interview with GameTrailers, Rebellion producer, Tim Jones, confirmed that the demo may also include multiplayer:
“There will be a demo coming very soon, which hopefully you will be able to enjoy online.”
While we still have no set date for the demo release, it is on the way and it may feature the multiplayer mode.
Update: AvPGalaxy can reveal the demo will be released next week! Stay tuned for a full announcement from Sega. Thanks to ikarop for the news.
Update 01/02/10: It was an open secret, but now the date for the upcoming AvP demo has finally been unveiled. Xbox Live Spotlight channel featured an advertisement claiming the date for the AvP demo. It seems like the ad is no longer available online but we can confirm that it’s true. The demo will be released this week, Thursday Feb 4th as featured on the channel. We can also reveal that the demo will feature the multiplayer part of the game and will be available on PSN and Steam on the same date. Update 03/02/10: The advert is back on the X-Box Live Spotlight channel. Check out this picture of it. Thanks to RidgeTop for the picture.
Gamespot have posted three new multiplayer videos from the game: Alien, Predator and Marine. The alien video shows off the first footage from the Conquest multiplayer mode while the other two are Deathmatch games.
Sega released a new Aliens vs Predator trailer today. This video last for two minutes and shows gameplay from the first Predator mission with the Predator moving through the trees watching the Marines. A lot of the footage will look familiar if you already saw the leaked clips last week.
There’s a new addition to the online community: OutpostAvP. This site was started by a group of members at the PlanetAvP forums after they tried to revive that community. I guess you could say OutpostAvP is a spiritual successor to PlanetAvP.
There isn’t much there in the way of content yet, but they have a forum and are actively posting news. Thanks to Orca for the news.
You may remember the Alien Makers documentaries put together by Dennis Lowe. His newest documentary is about the fans and he’s interviewed various members in the online Alien community. The interview includes Mike Lynch, Julian Bloom, Michael Seigler, Philippe Carini, Marc Caro, Aaron Percival, Fred Blanchard, Graham Langridge, Bijan Aalam, John Milas, and Dominic Kulcsar.
Some of those people you may know from the community. Mike Lynch runs Anchorpoint Essays; Aaron Percival is our very own Corporal Hicks; Michael Seigler, you may better know as Mr. Domino and Dominic Kulcsar is also known as wmmvrrvrrmm. They basically talk about what they thought of the Alien series and how it’s affected them in their lives. It’s quite interesting. The interview runs for about an hour and half. You can stream it over on Alien Experience or you can download it directly here. (344MB)
IGN has just released a new video for Aliens vs. Predator. This video is about one minute long and displays the game mode Survivor. IGN has also written a short preview about the mentioned game mode.
Update: In addition to the first trailer, Gamespot has posted another new video. This time the dev team talks about the changes and differences between the original game (1999) and the new release.
