MTV Movies recently sat down with Olivia Wilde while she was promoting Tron: Legacy and she confirmed she’d been talking to Ridley Scott. This adds her name to the list of potentials that includes Natalie Portman, Noomi Rapace and Carey Mulligan. Thanks to Christian Fowler for the e-mail:
This is definitely good news if it’s true. H.R. Giger’s wife, Carmen Scheifele, has said the Swiss surrealist painter is working on the Alien Prequel. You can check out the video interview with his wife here and another report about it here. It’s in German though.
Ihr Mann sei “on board”, also dabei, sagte Scheifele. Es werde sicher einen 3D-Film geben, wahrscheinlich aber zwei. Geplant sei ein Prequel, das die Geschichte vor dem ersten Alien-Film erzählt.
Basically, she says that Giger is on-board for the prequel. It will be a 3D film – there might be two and that it takes place before the first film. H.R. Giger of course created the Alien creature as well as various set pieces in the original Alien including the Space Jockey and its spacecraft. Thanks to Undel for the news.
You may remember Gearbox showcased a trailer for Aliens Colonial Marines in September 2008. It was a private function and cam footage of it was leaked back then. The actual teaser trailer has now been leaked in high quality. It starts with a shot of a planet and then pans to Alien eggs with marines exploring in the background. A facehugger jumps out and the clip ends.

The trailer was produced by a company called Digic Pictures who seem to have done several game trailers. Thanks to 4H0-DMT, Ikarop and Xhan for the news.
Sega have still not given the upcoming Aliens Colonial Marines a release date. Yesterday, Sega revealed their 2011 line-up and ACM is still listed as to-be-confirmed. The game was also mentioned in January’s issue of Game Informer magazine who interviewed Alan Pritchard – Sega of America’s executive vice president of sales and marketing. RidgeTop managed to take a picture of it:
So still no release date but we may hear something more about it in the next few months. Most likely, the game will be released around the same time as the Alien Prequel.
Vulture posted an update yesterday on the Alien prequel revealing its title: Alien Paradise and various characters in the script. They firstly debunked the previous story about the prequels being delayed. This was apparently a failed attempt to cast Leonardo DiCaprio in the prequels who would have been busy filming another movie.
They mention a new character called David who is an android and Ridley Scott was reportedly interested in Michael Fassbender for the part. They heard the part of ‘Vickers’ – a fortysomething, tough-but-sexy woman – will be played by Michelle Yeoh. There will be an older businessman character in the script as well as another character called ‘Engineer 1′ who is a CGI character like Gollum from Lord of the Rings.
Since the article has been posted, BadAssDigest has spoken to Fox and claim the Vulture report is false. They say that the studio is only making one Prequel movie – not two as previously stated and it’s definitely a prequel and not a reboot. The title won’t be Alien Paradise either. Apparently Fox will reveal more about the Prequel in due course. Thanks to greygoose, Kirkempk, dDave and King Willie for the news.
According to Scriptflags the release of both parts of the prequel have been pushed back:
The article doesn’t state any sources however. Thanks to Shasvre for the news.
I’d like to preface this one by saying take this with a grain of salt as it is only 3rd hand information. Richard Daborn pointed me towards this post:
“I’m not sure if any of this is known, but my Brother works in TV and one of the crews he works with came back from Morocco about 10 days ago (I waited until I knew it would be okay to mention). He was told that the area of desert they were shooting (where Scott shot Kingdom of Heaven) on had just been recced by Scott and he’s given the go ahead for them to start work on a pyramid!
The person who told my Brother thought it was going to be a part of Earth, but the pyramid sounds suspiciously like the original pyramid idea for Alien, so might actually be Acheron, or another planet.”
This was posted over at the Aliens Legacy forum.
I’ve uploaded an interview I conducted with Joseph Pepe, a conceptual artist who worked on Predators:
“Well the concept of him wearing the scavenged Predator gear was already in the script. I just had to make it work on a human sized body, which I found very difficult, added the Japanese Samurai helmet and other accoutrements in Photoshop. I used some mercenary like clothing to help convey his situation as well.”
You can read the whole thing at the interviews section. As well as that AvPGalaxy member Vecrotus has also written a profile section for the new Predators. We’ll have more updates coming soon.
ComicBookMovie.com is reporting that production on the Prequel has started. They’re citing visual effects artist, Henry South:
“Started work on alien prequel today!! Absolutely stunning. Worth waiting till late 2011 for peeps!”
South posted this up on his Twitter which actually seems to have disappeared. We also know that Arther Max, the production designer, has been working on the film since September so whether ComicBookMovie are referring to pre-production or mean it’s moved into production, I don’t know. Thanks to Ryan Farkas for the link.
Amidst all the recent casting rumors going around, one has surfaced in regards to Lance Henriksen being involved in the film:
“The inclusion of Henriksen is an unexpected one. His character was cleverly integrated into Alien 3, but how will writer Damon Lindelof work him into a prequel apparently set 35 years before the events of Alien? Will he take Alien Vs Predator’s version of franchise lore as gospel, and have Charles Bishop Weyland the founder of Weyland Industries? If so, the gap between AVP’s 2004 and Alien’s 2122 would suggest that Weyland is long dead, and that Henriksen will play an early iteration of his android twin, Bishop.”
The rumor was originally featured on an article on Now Playing but was promptly removed by Fox. The above quote is taken from a Den of Geek article which voices the issues and likely outcome of Henriksen being cast. The information provided would seem to indicate the Alien Harvest script that was leaked sometime ago may have been legit. Keep watching this space.
EDIT: On his Facebook page, Lance Henriksen, debunked the rumor he’d been approached about the prequel: “According to Internet rumors, Ridley Scott has met with me and Noomi Rapace about starring in an ALIEN prequel. That’s news to me…. but I like the idea of acting alongside The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.” Thanks to Xenomrph for the link.
