So now the game might be meeting it’s end, we’re finding more and more about it. The RPG has a name: Crucible and courtesy of Michael Zimmerman, we now have our first looks at what would have (might be) been:

You’ll find more on his website (or our forums). You’ll notice some of the colony and interiors have an Alien Res look about them, but they’ve tried to adapt the blues of Alien/s. Big thanks for funcroc for discovering these.

And as the days go on, Sega remains quiet but everyone else is shouting. AvPGalaxy visitor Kyle recently uncovered the blog of an ex-designer for Obsidian, with the “cancelled Aliens RPG” on his resume:
“April 2008 ”” February 2009 (11 months)
Designer for canceled third-person action Aliens RPG (Xbox 360, PS3, & PC)”
David Kondor’s blog also lists his roles while working on the game. Still nothing official. Thanks again to Kyle for the news.

Alien 5 News |

MTV Movies Blog spoke to Sigourney Weaver recently about a potential Alien 5 movie. Interestingly this time, she mentioned that Fox had a script written by Joss Whedon (Alien Resurrection, Buffy) and that it took place on Earth.
“”You know, Fox was going to do another one,” Sigourney Weaver said to us recently while accepting Ripley’s honor. “They had it written. Joss Whedon wrote it.” As Weaver remembered it, however, the script from the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” mastermind just didn’t rock her world. “It took place on earth,” she explained. “Which, I have to say, just really didn’t interest me. And I just felt that every time we went out there, we needed to have a really original piece.”
Which is a shame, because Weaver said that at the time she was perfectly willing to take on the Aliens once again. “I was all for going back to the original planet; I thought that would be interesting,” she explained. “But I was alone in that; we couldn’t really agree on what would be interesting.”"
She goes on to say that she feels the Alien series isn’t finished and that she’d do another one if they had the right script. If Joss Whedon wrote a script, it must have been a long time ago, before James Cameron started writing his script. Thanks to JK for the news.

DVD / Blu-Ray News |

Horror news website Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that Fox is currently working on Blu-Ray releases for Alien, Aliens and Alien 3. Each film will be released in a ‘new special edition set’ with new special features especially made for the Blu-Ray editions.
“We learned of some very interesting news that has me jumping for joy. We discovered that Fox Home Entertainment is currently working on brand new Blu-ray releases for Alien, Aliens and Alien 3. Each film is said to be released in a new special edition set with brand new special features made just for these releases! The only concern I have is Fox’s lackluster Blu-ray releases, where the quality looks like a simple up-convert as opposed to a brand new transfer (see Predator, Commando, Donnie Darko and numerous others).”
No news on Alien Resurrection as of yet and no release date is mentioned. Considering it’s Alien’s 30th anniversary this year, I suspect the Blu-Ray editions will be out at some point in 2009.
Update: The Digital Bits is reporting that the ‘entire Alien Quadrilogy’ including Alien Resurrection will be ported over to Blu-Ray. The complete set with all its features as well as new Blu-Ray features. Fox are reportedly aiming for a Late 2009 release.

Variety.com has just posted up a new article stating that Colonial Marines isn’t cancelled but maybe seeing release under a new developer:
“However, I’ve just spoken to a source in a very good position to know what’s up with both games who told me that they’re definitely not canceled. Production is expected to continue and the games, both of which are well into development, will come out. But quite possibly not with the developers they’re at. “
This collaborates the information I’ve recieved from my own sources. However, just to build on what I’ve heard: The RPG isn’t being canned. It is merely postponed while Obsidian concentrate their work on Alpha Protocol (the other Sega game they are working on). It is Colonial Marines that is in danger of changing hands. As you may have all read in various other articles, Sega is “reviewing” the quality of the game and my source is saying that Sega aren’t too keen on what they see.
So we’ll see. Just keep an eye out, here and various other gaming websites, for more news as it comes. Thanks to Cellien for the Variety article.

Following in the wake of the announcement of a new AvP game from Rebellion under Sega, we have this to report:
“Sources tell Kotaku that Sega has pulled the plug on their upcoming Aliens Roleplaying Game under development by California-based developer Obsidian.”
Gaming website Kotaku is citing a recent sacking of 20 people at Obsidian as one of the reasons behind this. And there is, of course, the recent news that Colonial Marines and this RPG have had their release pushed back until early 2011 at the least. I’m currently waiting for comment on the news from Sega. Thanks to Xenomrph for the news.
You can keep track of all the developments on this thread in our forums.
EDIT: Joystiq is also reporting that Sega has withdrawn funds from Colonial Marines too: “As for Gearbox, Sega supposedly stopped paying the developer for “a while” to produce Colonial Marines and it has since ceased production on the title.”
EDIT 2: Gamespot is now stating that the RPG has been “indefinitely suspended” and comes with a quote from Sega: “We will have more news to share about our Aliens franchise games in the near future,” said the rep. “Sega does not comment on rumors or speculation about its products… Please stay tuned for future correspondence regarding our products.”

AvP Game News |

Well, it has been rumoured since before AvP Requiem came out, it’s now official: Sega will be publishing a new Aliens vs. Predator game due to be released in early 2010. Rebellion will be developing the game who also developed the PC FPS AvP1 (1999) and more recently AvP Requiem (2007) for the PSP. There are no platforms announced or even a genre. Here’s Sega’s press release:
“SEGA will publish an all-new Aliens vs. Predator (working title) game in early 2010. The game is currently in development with independent developer Rebellion… …”The innovative new AvP game presents an exciting opportunity for us,” says CEO of SEGA West, Naoya Tsurumi, “It represents a fantastic addition to our growing Aliens franchise and the reinvention of one of gaming’s most cherished iconic titles. By adjusting the release of our other Aliens titles to accommodate it, SEGA will ensure that every title lives up to the high expectations of Aliens and AvP fans.”"
This essentially means Aliens: Colonial Marines and the Aliens RPG have been delayed until after AvP has been released. Thanks to Chris, wjkoemar, sambomambo, Salt The Fries, funcroc and jimmyboy for the news.
Update: Platforms have been confirmed: X360, PS3 and PC.

Now this is a cracking find by forum member XenoVC. He stumbled across these two pictures on DeviantART in the profile of an Obsidian employee:

Now if you look closely at this picture of an Obsidian office you can just see the title screen for the RPG. And looks like Xeno uncovered the original version of it. Plus this artwork which is apparently the plain version of the menu interface. And here is the artist responsible.

I know the film has been out yonks now, but I recently ran into a couple of portfolios of the concept artists who worked on AvPR and found a couple of previous unseen artwork:
The above is one of four pieces of artwork done by Dark Hoffman and one of two which seems to show there might have been plans for a secret base experimenting on Aliens and Predators.
The second artist, Chris Howe, has 14 pictures in a gallery all to do with the design of Wolf’s mask and his weapons. Now I’ve seen one of those mask charts on our forum but the rest I haven’t seen. There are quite a few new weapons as well.
