Alien 5 without Aliens?

MTV Movies has been talking to Mrs Weaver and as usual she reveals that her and Ridley Scott have been talking about an Alien 5. Again. But this time it’s a little different:

““What we’re interested in is taking the character of Ripley and seeing what other science fiction story we can tell about someone who has lived several lives.”

An Alien film without Aliens? I know it’s always been about Ripley but…Well, I’ll let you make your own minds up about it. Read the whole thing here. Thanks to Xenomorphine for the news.

    does anyone think its possible for the alien franchise to take a break for ten to fifteen years and totally do what needs to be redone correctly?  i think the alien creature needs to have its 1979 nostalgia back.  not so much the bug hunt type of story line.  the alien needs to be the hunter, not humans or a predator.

    Sigourney Weaver is too old to star in the prequel.  She can star in it in the begining and then narrate the rest of the film, but they need to cast a younger woman for the pre-alien (1979) scenes.    alien 5 without the aliens = not a good idea

    amazing how you all miss the point that the creature has now become a characture .it holds no mystery now since it was ballsed up by the avp franchise  in short it has become freddy kruger or jason and will never hold its mystery i feel they should just ditch it and have a ripley story on how she,s changed and the creature within trying to influence her actions .maybe ripley wanted to get to earth and is more alien than we know? cue ripley bringing down mankind and being the new queen   alien will survive all all costs.rings true in the end .being the perfect organism and able to adapt and over come it new genetic boundry

    I hope they won't even consider making a TV series! They did the same with Star Wars and Terminator and it sucked.  That would totally ruin the Alien franchise...

    i agree with you rudy do an alien tv series like they are doing with terminator the sarah conor chronicles all about ellen ripley and her days & hours on the nostromo or the sulaco or lv 426 or forina 161 or about her clone from after alien res where she fights aliens maybe fight a predator maybe or whatever she comes in contact with but don't use sigourney weaver use an unknown actor then save sigourney for the movie of an alien 5 don't you agree with me people.   ;D

    well, watching a different kind of Aliens, that would sound better. or what about a Alien TV series w/ Ellen Ripley but with other kind of stories, not only being stucked on Rip herself. And for me, i'm better off reading the Aliens novels and don't have to take my opinion but Aliens: Original Sin reveals all, dating back before Rip and the crash landing of the  ship. And why it was sent there - the book explains it just "for me". why a A5? i consider original sin is Alien 5

    Now I LOVE Sigourney just as much as the next Alien obsessed fan but... Alien 5. With no Alien. What are they going to call it? "5"?!  One of the most awesome and legendary sci-fi creatures to ever grace the big screen gets a sequel. Without it?! It's insanity I tell you! INSANITY!!!! *runs off laughing maniacally*

    I'VE SAID IT ONCE SO I'LL SAY IT AGAIN ALIEN 5 SHOULD START AFTER ALIENS AND CONTINUE THE STORY AFTER THE EVENTS ON LV426.IF IT MEANS GOING TO THE ALIEN HOMEWORLD SO BE IT AND IT'S NOT AS IF MICHAEL BIEHN HAS DONE ANYTHING FOR A FEW YEARS IS IT.SIGOURNEY AND RIDLEY CAN NOT DO A ALIEN FILM WITHOUT THE TILE CREATURE IF THEY WANT TO DO ANOTHER ONE DO IT AS A SUSPENSE FILM LIKE THE 1ST ON AND KEEP ANY NEW CREATURES IN THE SHADOWS AND NOT IN FULL VIEW WE DON'T KNOW WHAT OTHER KIND OF ALIEN CREATURES ARE OUT THERE WHAT ABOUT A KING ALIEN THAT WOULD BE COOL ANYWAY ALIEN MOVIES ARE SCI-FI HORROR NOT SATURDAY KIDS MOVIES.   8)

    i think that idea of doing another alien movie without the aliens is the most stupidest idea i've ever heard in my life. i like to see the aliens vs predator movies but ONLY if its done right. i would also love to see more alien movies and also more predator movies since i love the ALIENS/PREDATOR franchises alot.

    You can't make an Alien movie without the Aliens. It's simple as that. If Ridley Scott is smart, by whidch he is no dummy, then I would believe that he would scrap this idea and somehow think of a way of making new ideas and explorations while remaining true to the Alien series.   If he wants to do something like this, then he might as well make a TV series about it, like Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.   I recall sometime in early 2000, that Fox was debating on an AvP/Aliens/Predator TV series known as ALIENS: OMEGA, but it was never produced.   This would be a good time to do it.  But a movie without the Aliens? Uh-uh.. Ridley Scott, if you're smart, you won't go with that idea.

    I have to agree with Space Disc Jockey about one thing: I'd love to see further exploration of the Space Jockeys. Although, I'm completely against removing the aliens from the series. I'm convinced that you can make the aliens scary if you do it right, and if you combine aliens with Space Jockeys you'll get the old stuff that fans know and love, plus new exciting stuff for both the general public and the old fans.  The story could have a similar tone to Aliens at some parts. Imagine a classic scientific base getting overrun by aliens, but this time they're not acting on their own, but are controlled by the Jockeys. And Ripley goes with a team of marines to eliminate the hive, wich is located in a nearby mountain, and then she finds Space Jockey ruins similar to the ones in the AvP2 game. They could show alot of untold stories with that concept, and also throw in some sweet action and horror moments. In the end, the Jockeys could loose the control over the aliens and then a lone Jockey will have to fight the queen or something. I'm just brainstorming here, but this has a lot of possibilities.  Also, since the aliens had a cameo in Predator 2, with the skull on the wall, they could show some kind of connection between the preds and the Jockeys in Alien 5. Like just a small hint or something, that creates more mystery and gets the fanbase hooked.    :P

    It would be the most stupid thing I've ever heard! Adventures of Ellen Ripley without Aliens? It would be look like "Ewoks" movie without Star Wars characters... I believe that Ridley has had something different on his mind - maybe fresh story about Aliens...    ???

    I'd be thrilled for this if it was done well, i'd much rather the universe mythology expanded well, so the franchise could expand into greater things than just aliens or predators. I want some info rich universe to nerd out about, like the star wars/trek nerds have.

    How about this: A Alien 5 prequel?  Like how the company knew about the Aliens, and why they want those creatures so badly, why the Aliens were taken out."HOW" the company started. One more thing: The Queen Alien made herself? From a woman somehow into a queen? Well, to me those questions or ideas is from the ALIENS: ORIGINAL SIN explains all. But should we really see a 5th Alien film?

    Ridley has always wanted to create a completely new alen monster. I think though that Ripley's situation where she's lived on and off over a few hundred years in one state or another reminds me a bit of the scenario of The Forever War which Ridley has attached himself to to make into a movie

    What?  An ALIEN 5 with no ALIEN?  A "chronicals of Ripley"?  Let me say NO!  This would suck!  I believe the main reason for Riply existing is the ALIEN organism.  If you took that away, it would be more like a fictional documentary, rather than a Sci Fi film expansion.  I vote against this plan of action.  They stated that they would have to go "back to the drawing board".  Well, with what?  The creature design? Origination?    You knwo what I am getting out of this..... a PREqual to A L I EN(1979), not a sequal to Alien Resurrection.  As long as it goes into depth regarding the ALIEN organism, I am fine with this.  The Ripley character definately needs to be exposed more, but WITH the ALIEN, NOT without.

    -------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Well, I really do think they should just go to the Alien planet and also reveal the Space Jockey species. I mean, if they want Ripley to go a "chronicles" route and tell other stories that don't involve the Alien species, then put to rest the Aliens and their mystery. Tell us their origins and everything and move on. I totally agree now that the Alien creature just isnt scary anymore...too much of it has been overexposed. The mystery of it is gone, really. I can understand they want to do something new and different, but I think first...end the "Alien" chapter of Ripley's life for good. Go to the source, end it and go a different direction. Ridley is *ucking brilliant, we know that...Im sure that whatever he decides to do, he wont *uck things up (I hope).  I would ONLY be happy if they totally close the Alien chapter and THEN tell stories of other adventures, following Ripley. Hopefully, it wont be like what they did to Riddick. I really liked Pitch Black, but man did they screw up with "Chroinciles of Riddick" = /

    I just don't get it.  Why are there still people who think this franchise lives and dies around Ellen Ripley?  Don't get me wrong, "Alien" and "Aliens" are, in my opinion, 2 of the greatest sci-fi movies of our generation...but LET'S GIVE IT A REST.  Bringing her back for "Alien: Resurrection" was the worst mistake this franchise could have ever made.  Can we just let this character die already (especially considering that, um...SHE'S ALREADY DEAD)?  Here's my suggestion:  back off for a few years, let the stink of the AVP movies wear off, pray that the Aliens: Coloniel Marines game is a hit, and then try to reboot the franchise based on Steve Perry's trilogy (just find a way to write out Ripley for part 3).

    I think what she is trying to say is that if they do A5 it will ignore most of the other films, Hence the "science fiction story we can tell about someone who has lived several lives.”  Seems to me thats a cop out way of saying "We want to start a new Ripley story".
